Public Outreach
Our lab is deeply committed to sharing science beyond the academic community, making research accessible and engaging for the public. These efforts reflect our belief that science should be for everyone. By contributing to books and media that reach diverse audiences, we aim to inspire curiosity, spark conversations about science, and bridge the gap between research and public understanding.
We are proud that our work has been featured in popular science books, such as Bitch by Lucy Cooke and Father Time by Sarah Hrdy, and in several documentary videos, highlighting the broader relevance of our studies to understanding behavior and evolution.
In addition to these features, Dr. O’Connell contributes to several children’s education initiatives as a scientific advisor.
Most recently, this includes providing scientific guidance and writing a foreword to the children’s comic book Awesome Amphibians by Liz Prince. This engaging and educational comic introduces young readers to the fascinating world of amphibians, fostering curiosity about biology and conservation.
